Asbestos Transportation and Disposal

Although it had been used for decades as an insulator and fire-proofing material, asbestos is now recognized to be a powerful carcinogen. If you have an older factory, refinery or pipeline network that’s being demolished, remodeled, renovated, or expanded, you must carefully inspect it for the presence of asbestos before proceeding. And if asbestos is found, you need help from experienced experts to remove the material safely and within established environmental guidelines.

At EWSI, we have the knowledge and experience to evaluate your facility’s asbestos situation and devise a transportation and disposal strategy. Our asbestos removal experts can safely remove all asbestos-containing materials from your property, including:

  • In-wall insulation
  • Floor tiles
  • Ceiling tiles
  • Ductwork
  • Pipe wrappings
  • Equipment blankets

All EWSI asbestos transportation and disposal is conducted within the strictest guidelines as established by the EPA. When the process is complete, you can proceed with any construction or renovation work, knowing that the area is asbestos-free.

Contaminated Soil Disposal

Contaminated soil contains any substance that exceeds naturally-occurring levels and poses a health risk. Commercial areas and former industrial sites are at the biggest risk for soil contamination. Some of the most common contaminants in commercial soils are: pesticides, petroleum products, asbestos, lead, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds.)

Exposure to contaminated soil can happen in a variety of ways:

  • Groundwater contamination (wells)
  • Breathing soil dust and particles
  • Absorbing through skin
  • Eating food grown in contaminated soil
  • Generators of Contaminated Soil
  • Junkyards, Waste Disposal Sites
  • Gas Stations and Auto Service Centers
  • Run-off from farmland (pesticides)
  • Contaminated Soil Removal and Disposal

EWSI provides special hauling and disposal of contaminated soil, customized with your needs in mind.

Contaminated Water Treatment and Disposal

Contaminated water requires treatment before it can be discharged to a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) like a municipal sewer system. The same goes for trying to discharge it to surface waters like a river, lake, or the sea. This treatment also requires a permit that is tough to get and expensive to operate and maintain. That’s where EWSI’s waste water treatment and disposal services create significant savings for our clients.

We have a fleet of vacuum trucks and vacuum tankers operating across the Northeast, collecting contaminated water and delivering it to our permitted facility for treatment. Whatever the waste, and whatever it’s stored in (tanks, drums, sumps, etc.), we can recover it and provide safe transport and disposal.

Applications:

  • Oily Water/ Petroleum Contact Water (PCW)
  • Metals-bearing water
  • Leachate
  • Contaminated Groundwater
  • Industrial Process Water

All wastes are profiled, collected, and then transported back to our centralized facility for permitted disposal. Utilizing our state-of-the-art treatment system, we can isolate the contaminants and then discharge clean, treated water.

PCB and Non-PCB Equipment Disposal

At EWSI, we help our power-distribution industry clients retire their electrical equipment at our state-of-the-art commercial storage facilities. Our experienced, certified, service and disposal professionals are available for pickup, receiving, testing, and disposal of your surplus equipment. Each is committed to upholding standards of environmental compliance, so EWSI customers can rest assured that their decommissioned equipment will be handled with all-due professionalism.

Tested equipment which contains 50-499 ppm PCB can be shipped by EWSI either empty or full (under a Hazardous Waste Manifest). Once this equipment is received and documented, our technicians pump the contaminated oil into segregated bulk tanks. Carcasses and non-porous materials are triple-rinsed, and the coils are burned at a permitted scrap metal recovery facility.

Tested equipment that contains PCB at levels greater than 500 ppm can be shipped to one of our permitted facilities under a Hazardous Waste Manifest. This equipment is stored at a TSD facility until approval at an authorized disposal facility. We will send the Certificates of Disposal on all equipment and fluids for your records, and maintain duplicate records at our office for 7 years.

Transformers and other oil filled equipment that are known to be less than 50 ppm PCB are not regulated. But non-regulated is not a synonym for risk-free. Your company can be confident that EWSI gives prompt service on recycling and disposal jobs, as well as record-keeping support, liability protection, and the financial stability to meet payment obligations today and in the future.

EWSI provides comprehensive PCB and Non-PCB equipment disposal and recycling solutions, customized with your needs in mind.

Universal Waste Recycling

If you have universal waste (Light Bulbs, Ballasts, Batteries, Electronic Waste, and/or Mercury Devices), our recycling services are suited for both large and small generators.

While most Universal Wastes are not subject to the vast majority of RCRA requirements, you still need to manage the materials in such a way as to prevent toxic releases to the environment. With proper labeling and transport to a facility that is permitted for receiving hazardous waste, you have the assurance you are in compliance with all current regulations.

EWSI helps you manage your universal waste collection and disposal/recycling appropriately. Since universal waste regulations can vary from state to state, we will guide you in determining if the state (or states) in which you operate have adopted the full Federal Universal Waste Program, or have removed or added some of the federal program’s wastes from their Universal Waste Program.

EWSI’s state-of-the-art recycling and recovery facilities offers industry-leading pollution control.
